Final Environmental Assessment & FONSI received

In December 2016, TxDOT determined that the preferred alternative for The Southern Gateway Project will not have a significant impact on the human or natural environment. With this approval, the project can move forward to the next phase of the project to select a construction team to build the project. Construction is estimated to begin Summer 2017.

Recent Project Refinements

The following project refinements have been made based on stakeholder and public input received since the project was reinitiated in 2013:

Segment 1 along I-35E from the I-35E/US 67 Split Interchange to Colorado Boulevard

  • Tolled managed lanes have changed to non-tolled express lane.
  • Toll gantries and information Technology maintenance areas have been removed.
  • Wider cross street accommodations for pedestrian and bicycle accessibility are proposed.
  • Reconfigured I-35E and Beckley Avenue intersection to reduce right-of-way (ROW) impacts.
  • Shifted the managed lane access point along I-35E at Marsalis Avenue to south of Cedar Creek to reduce ROW impacts.
  • Additional mainlane along I-35E from Marsalis Avenue to US 67 is proposed in each direction.
  • Evaluated the feasibility of a potential deck plaza.
  • Realigned the geometry throughout to reduce ROW and displacements.
  • Refined the transition to the Dallas Horseshoe Project under construction to minimize throw away costs.
  • Simplified bridge layouts to reduce costs.
  • Maintained 10th Street as a thru street connection for additional local access.

Segment 2A along US 67 from I-20 to the I-35E/US 67 Split Interchange

  • Tolled managed lanes have changed to non-tolled express lanes.
  • Toll gantries and IT maintenance areas have been removed.
  • Previously proposed 2 general purpose lanes -2 reversible (tolled managed lane)-2 general purpose lanes section has changed to a 3 general purpose lanes -1 reversible non-tolled express lane-3 general purpose lanes. The additional capacity would be added through the general purpose in lieu of the managed lanes.
  • Shifted the non-tolled express lane access point north to allow access to/from Camp Wisdom Road.
  • General purpose lanes widening is proposed on the outside of the mainlanes.
  • Reconstructing and relocating additional slip ramps to facilitate increased operations and local access.
  • Providing ramping for increased Southwest Center Mall access along US 67.

Segment 2B along US 67 from Beltline Road to I-20
To be Constructed under a separate project and will not be procured under the I-35E/US 67 Project. However, the separate project will have similar anticipated begin and end construction dates. For more information on the project and upcoming meetings, please visit www.keepitmovingdallas.com
